As a professional dancer trained in Bharatanatyam, I have always been a little unsure about my hand at acting, yet I took up the offer to play myself on stage because it is something I’ve never encountered before, and the challenge seems very exciting.
Working with TheatreWallay has helped me get out of my comfort zone, with a gracious and accommodating group that has taken me in to their fold. While David and Linda were working with us, the level of my motivation steadily increased, especially with the two words most stressed upon by them—intention and alacrity.
My dance trainer, Indu Mitha, always inserted these two elements in our training, but this is the first time I am taking acting as seriously as I do my dance. (Despite having written, directed and acted in politically charged street theatre, where the content of the script has always been more important to me than the portrayal of the characters). So yes, I am quite inspired by the new work, On Common Ground, that is challenging me with, especially memorizing lines!
